Illustrative case study

A Shanghai, China Company Hires Five Thai Employees in Bangkok

A practical example of how local employment and China-side commercial coordination may operate, subject to engagement-specific review.

The Situation

A Shanghai-headquartered business identifies five Thai nationals for a Bangkok commercial team. It has not established its own Thai employing entity, and its finance team prefers a China-side commercial arrangement rather than recurring direct payroll funding to Thailand.

The Objective

Give headquarters a clear commercial counterparty and consolidated cost flow while providing the five employees with locally administered employment, payroll and applicable statutory administration in Thailand.

01 · Contract

China-Side Engagement

The client enters the approved service arrangement with the appropriate UnionSPACE network company, subject to review.

02 · Employ

Thailand Employment

UnionSPACE Thailand coordinates local employment documentation and onboarding for the five employees.

03 · Fund

Approved Cost Flow

The Shanghai company funds agreed employment costs and service fees through the approved commercial route.

04 · Payroll

Local Monthly Payment

Thailand payroll and agreed employer administration are completed locally for the employees.

The Commercial Result

Shanghai headquarters manages the Bangkok team's work without building a separate payroll administration function for five employees. The employees receive locally administered payroll, and the client's finance team works through a structure closer to its home market.

This is an illustrative scenario, not a representation that the same structure is available to every company. Facts, documentation, banking acceptance and regulatory treatment must be reviewed for each engagement.

Before incorporation

After setup

Plan the Transition

Coordinate employee transition, payroll, accounting, tax and corporate compliance for the new structure.

Thailand Employer of Record FAQs

Practical answers for foreign business owners and overseas HR teams hiring Thai employees.

An Employer of Record, or EOR, is the local employing entity for a worker in Thailand. The client company directs the employee's day-to-day work, while the EOR administers the local employment contract, payroll and applicable employer obligations under the agreed arrangement.

An overseas company may use an appropriate EOR arrangement to engage Thailand-based employees without first establishing its own Thai employing entity. The proposed role, management model, business activities and regulatory position should be reviewed before implementation.

The client normally selects the employee, assigns duties, sets performance expectations and manages day-to-day work. UnionSPACE manages the agreed local employment and payroll administration. Responsibilities should be clearly allocated in the service and employment documentation.

The agreed scope may include local employment documents, monthly payroll, salary payment, statutory deductions and contributions, Social Security administration, payslips, leave records, employee support, onboarding and offboarding, and coordination with the client's HR and finance teams.

No. This EOR service is exclusively for Thai nationals working in Thailand. It does not cover foreign-national employees or visa and work permit services for employees, business owners or managers.

UnionSPACE’s EOR & Payroll Management fee is only 18% of the employee’s monthly salary. For a salary of THB 30,000, the monthly management fee is THB 5,400. Salary plus management fee totals THB 35,400, before any applicable employer contributions, agreed benefits, other employment costs and taxes. Your quotation will set out the full cost breakdown.

Depending on the circumstances, a China-based company may be able to contract or arrange payment through an appropriate UnionSPACE network office while employment and payroll are administered in Thailand. Availability is subject to contractual, banking, tax, foreign-exchange and other regulatory review.

Yes, a transition may be planned when the client establishes an appropriate Thai entity. The transfer should be structured carefully to address employment continuity, documentation, payroll, accrued rights and benefits.

Timing depends on due diligence, contract agreement, employee documentation, payroll setup, agreed benefits and funding readiness. UnionSPACE confirms a practical onboarding timetable after reviewing the proposed hire.
