What to do if someone sue you for unpaid bills/ invoices?

Speaking from true events, if you have a supplier or vendors who are demanding outstanding payments from you, it is important to attend to all the legal notices you may receive because the Thai Law / Police system is actually quite effective.

By ignoring police notices or court notices, you will be deemed to accept any judgement the court may impose to you and you will loose the rights to appeal afterwards as well hence the court has power to seize the owing amount in your bank account in favor of the person suing you.

Best Practice

  • Attend to all official notices
  • Have a Thai friend or colleague to accompany you to the police station or where ever it may be
  • Don’t be afraid.90% of the time, the officer is there to find a amicable solution for both parties.
  • 90% of the time, if you are a foreigner, you will just have to accept the fact that not everything in Thailand is 100% fair and you may be at the losing end
  • It is better, cheaper and safer for you (if you are a foreigner) to settle the matter amicably.

Special Advise

  • Penalties through official channel are very reasonable and often a lot cheaper than the initial money they demand for.
